As the risks and challenges of climate change and the conventional food system become more widely-known, American consumers are increasingly choosing to spend their dollars on environmentally sustainable, local, and organic products. Many businesses that attempt to address these challenges have trouble accessing traditional forms of capital, however. Additionally, lower income, minority populations are disproportionately burdened with negative environmental effects, and have the least access to sustainable technology and high-quality, nutritional food.

Focus

SvF supports entrepreneurs who are developing innovative, scalable businesses that transform the energy, waste, and food sectors. We invest in businesses with benefits both the environment and to their communities, as well as those that help extend the benefits of green products and services to consumers across all geographies and income levels. Although we welcome any business plan related to the environment or food systems, we are particularly interested in enterprises focused on:

• sustainable agriculture,
• local food systems,
• waste repurposing,
• community energy solutions
